DIRECTIONS for questions 1 to 10: Each of the following items consists of a related pair of words or phrases presented in capital letters, followed by four lettered pairs of words or phrases presented in lower case letters. For each question, choose the lettered pair that expresses a relationship similar to that in the bold and capitalized pair.

Analogies HE-01
 
1.       C     “-“is a SYMBOL, whereas HYPHEN is the WORD that describes it.

2.       B    This is a vertical relationship. A POLICEMAN in UNITED STATES is called a GENDARME in FRANCE.

3.       D     A higher degree of AFFECTION is PASSION, just as a higher degree of WIND is GALE.

4.       B      This is a vertical relationship.  WILD   and PRIMITIVE are synonyms, just as DOMESTICATED and CIVILIZED are.

5.       D       SEOUL is the capital of SOUTH KOREA, just as MADRID is of SPAIN.

6.       A         In the normal usage of the words, a TEAR is generally unintentional and a CUT is intentional, Similarly, WRINKLE is unintentional, and a FOLD is intentional.

7.       A         This is vertical relationship, INEPT and MALADROIT are synonyms, just as TACTLESS and GAUCHE are.

8.       C         A constant fear of PERSECUTION leads to PARANOIA, just as DICHOTOMY leads to SCHIZOPHRENIA.
