Sentence Completion Home Exercise -03, DIRECTIONS for questions 1 to 5:

DIRECTIONS for questions 1 to 5: Each sentence in this part has one or two missing elements, as indicated by a series of dashes. Following the sentence, you will see lettered words or sets of words. Choose the word or set words that best fit the meanings of the sentence as a whole.

                         1.       B    The double negation in the beginning indicates that the speaker was made uncomfortable by the audience’s criticism. Only “discomfited,” fits here. 

2.       C     Since Shipler had no sense of moral obligation, he wouldn’t be too bothered with conscience after he acted. The only word that fits here is “reproaches”. 

3.       A   the key here is – the outdoors NOW could be enjoyed. This means that earlier they didn’t. What can be the reason for that? It is given in “fear of “for the first blank. And this dear was “exorcised”, which fits in the second blank. 

4.       A she (whosoever she is) seems not to spend too much money. But the author is concerned with the correct adjective, and claims that she is not miserly, she spends money for a good cause. The good word for miser is “frugal”. 

5.       D   People have become speed watchers. Hence if the camera lingers, their interest would decrease, or “flag”.
