Analogies Home Exercise – 03, DIRECTIONS for questions 1 to 10:

DIRECTIONS for questions 1 to 10: Each of the following items consists of a related pair of words or phrases presented in capital letters, followed by four lettered pairs of words or phrases presented in lower case letters. For each question, choose the lettered pair that expresses a relationship similar to that in the bold and capitalized pair.

Analogies HE- 03


1.       D   This is a vertical relationship. BEIJING is an ORIENTAL city, whereas VENICE is an OCCIDENTAL city.

2.       D    This is a vertical relationship. CONCISE refers to an EPIGRAM (short poem or phrase expressing an idea), and TRANSPOSED (alphabets shifted from their original place in a word) refers to an ANAGRAM.

3.       D   A MILE is a bigger unit than a FOOT. Similarly, an AEON is bigger unit than a CENTURY.

4.       B This is a weal analogy. AN ASYLUM is HOAPITALITY offered by a COUNTRY that is HOST. None of the other options fit.

5.       A  FREIGHTER carries CARGO, just as LINER carries PASSENGERs.

6.       A  This is a weak analogy. NUTRIENTS and VITAMINS are synonyms; FOOD  is common to both the pairs.

7.       B  To GOBBLE is to eat FOOD hastily. To GUZZLE is to DRINK hastily.

8.       D The sound of OWL is called HOOT; the sound of DOG is called BARK.

9.       C  MONEY is authentic, COUNTERFEIT is fake / duplicate. SIGNATURE is authentic, FORGERY is fake/ duplicate.

10.   D   A HAND is used to GRASP; a FOOT is used to STAND.
