Sentence Correction Home Exercise 03, DIRECTIONS for questions 11 to 15:

DIRECTIONS for questions 11 to 15: Each of the following questions consists of a sentence, with some parts of it underlined which could be erroneous. From among the choice given, you have to select an answer that is the possible replacement for the underlined part of the key, sentence.   While choosing the right answer, please pay particular attention to the syntax, idiom, usage and economy of words being used.

11.   B    The tense has to be past tense as the sentence talks of a bygone era. Hence B.

12.   C   The analogy is with is with a figure skater which should succeed the clause of Earth’s rotation; this happens only in C.

13.      B   As the sentence is giving a reason for a phenomenon , the most direct statement is “for everyone” and after that, the present tense “know” must match with “are” . Hence B.

14.     C   “After “should be replaced because “after when “is wrong. Also use the direct “Truman’s support” instead f passive voice. Hence C

15.   A     choose the active voice by stating what happened in 1980’s. Between A and B is wrong because we should not used “It is estimated” after 1980’s. Hence A is the best answer.
