Analogies Home Exercise- 02 , Directions for questions 1 to 10:



   Directions for questions 1 to 10: Each of the following items consists of a related pair of words or phrases presented in capital letters, followed by four letters pairs of words or phrases presented in lower case letters. For each question, choose the lettered pair that expresses a relationship similar to that in the bold and capitalized pair.

Analogies HE-02


1.        A   A HANGAR is the place where an AEROPLANE is kept. Similarly, a STABLE is where a HORSE is kept.

2.       D   A weather VANE indicates the WIND DIRECTION, just as a SUNDIAL indicates TIME.


3.       B    A PREAMBLE comes before the main body and CONCLUSION comes afterwards. Similarly, a Greeting comes in the beginning, and a FAREWELL comes at the end.

4.       B   A DANCER uses his/ her FEET in the same way a JUGGLER use HANDS.

5.       C   People attending a CONCERT are called AUDIENCE, and people attending a GAME are called SPECTATORS.

6.       B  A CAPTAIN is chief of the CREW, just as a CHAIRPERSON is the chief of the COMMITTEE.

7.       A   Writings of an AUTHOR about himself/ herself are an AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Similarly, an ARTIST painting himself/ herself called a SELFPORTRAIT.

8.       D  GRAPEs grow on VINE just as APPLE s grow on TREE.

9.       B  GOGGLES protect/ cover the EYES just as MITTENS cover/ protect the HANDS.

10.    C  STEAM erupts from a GEYSER (not the ones in the bathroom! Check the other meaning in dictionary) just as LAVA erupts from a VOLCANO.
